Learn the basics of sewing machine parts, basic stitches used in sewing and embroidery. Practice using the tape measure to determine how big or small a clothing item needs to be, types of thread and which ones would work best on different fabrics. Students will create small products used in and around the sewing area (i.e. pincushion, apron), then advance to design and create an outfit from start to finish.

This course builds on the basics of sewing to include more complex skills such as sewing with patterns that will require setting zippers, sewing collars, cuffs, interfacing, buttonholes, etc. The students will also learn different ways of hemming a garment, alterations, tapering, embroidery and other techniques.
