Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers

Individuals who are currently employed or are seeking employment in the health care industry must complete a Health Care Provider CPR course. This American Heart Association course fulfills the CPR course requirement.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundation for saving lives. It is designed for healthcare providers and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of settings or by those in a healthcare training program.

PREREQUISITES

  1. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for this course by calling 336-694-8052
  2. You must provide your email address when you call or come to the campus. We will email you important information for the course!
  3. Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Course; this can be found at https://www.onlineaha.org/ (there is a $34 fee for this course) (you must have your course completion certificate sent to Heather Franklin prior to start of class.
  4. Complete an Instructor Candidate Application –
    • Email Heather.Franklin@piedmontcc.edu and request this form. Forward signed application to Heather Franklin(This form must be completed by the TCF/Coordinator/Instructor that is recommending you to become an instructor). 
    • Anyone taking the course that will not be aligning with RCC’s TC will need to have the affiliating TC fill out the TC Alignment section.  If this is not completed, candidate will not be able to take the class.
    • Once the form is completed, email form to Heather Franklin.
  5. Affiliate with an AHA Community Training Center.
    • You must be accepted by an AHA Training Center before enrolling in an Instructor Course.
    • Piedmont Community College (PCC) is a training site that affiliates with Randolph Community College (a training center). Once your instructor candidate form is completed (signed by a TCF/ Coordinator/ Instructor that is recommending you) and returned to PCC, you will need to go online and align with a training center.  Do Not call Randolph Community College.  You have to be approved by PCC prior to affiliating with them. 
  6. Hold a current AHA BLS provider certification – Email Heather Franklin a copy of your current BLS card
  7. A valid state ID or driver’s license is required.
  8. Bring a Basic Life Support Instructor Kit to class
    • This can be purchased through AHA Distributors: WorldPoint, Channing-Bete Co., or Laerdal Medical Corp.

Heartsaver CPR/ First Aid/ AED

Heartsaver CPR/ First Aid/ AED is geared for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR, first aid, and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. This course is perfect for teachers, daycare employees, and even the public. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.
