These courses vary from programs to start a new career, to earn certification to boost a current career, or free programs to make sure job searchers are on the right track. COMPTERS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Microsoft Office Specialist – Word Associate

This certification demonstrates competency in the correct application of the principal features of Microsoft Word by creating and editing documents for a variety of purposes and situations. Students learn how to create and maintain professional-looking reports, multicolumn newsletters, résumés, and business correspondence.

Income Maintenance Caseworker – NC Fast

This course is designed to cover a variety of skills associated with the Income Maintenance Caseworker role to determine service eligibility. Specific focus will include proficiency in the utilization of the NC FAST application. Other topics will include skills in communication, interviewing, time management, data gathering/compiling, and data analysis.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING & CONSTRUCTION:

Electrical Contractor Re-Certification

Earn your re-certification after learning updated information on the latest changes in the National Electric Code and NC Electric Code requirements.

HEALTHCARE:

Nurse Aid II

Prepare to work under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals while performing nursing care and services for persons of all ages. Topics include growth and development, personal care, vital signs, communication, nutrition, therapeutic activities, family resources and services, and employment skills. Upon completion, you may be eligible for listing as a Nurse Aide I.

  • $189 registration fee + textbook, and state board exam fees (scholarship funding available)

Medical Administrative Assistant

Prepare to pass the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam with this quality online education that offers one-on-one support from dedicated instructors

Medical Coding and Billing (Part I & II)

This online medical coding and billing program trains you in the specialized skills needed to assign the standardized codes used to bill for healthcare services. This course is delivered in two parts.

Cardiovascular Technician

This program will prepare students for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) Exam through the National Healthcare Association (NHA).

Medication Aide for Licensed Personnel

This program will prepare you for the North Carolina competency exam that enables them to administer medications in skilled nursing homes (long-term care facilities).

Medication Technician for Unlicensed Personnel

This program prepares unlicensed personnel to take the North Carolina Adult Care Medication Test that enables them to give medications in adult care homes, assisted living facilities and group homes.

CAREER ADVANCEMENT & PERSONAL ENRICHMENT:

BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers

This CPR course is designed for the healthcare provider or students going into the healthcare field (example Nursing Degree Program, Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy). It is open to all healthcare students, providers, and fire fighters. 

Food Service Sanitation/Safety – ServSafe Recertification Course

ServSafe® is a nationally recognized food safety and sanitation training program. It is designed for experienced food service employees and managers who need to comply with local and state health department requirements for food manager/food handler certification or recertification.

Spanish for the Workplace I

Master important Spanish terms and phrases and improve your communication skills with customers and co-workers. This course is an introductory understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Emphasis is placed on pronunciation, parts of speech, communicative phrases, culture, and skills for language acquisition.   

Notary Public Education – offered monthly

The Notary Public course covers information for you to be able to apply for North Carolina Notary Public commissions. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and speak and write English.

Truck Driver Training

Be on your way to a new career that currently offers abundant job openings locally and across the nation. Just think – only five-weeks to a new, good paying career!

  • $3,403 registration fee (scholarship funding available)
  • March 31 – May 5, Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    • Online; March 31 – April 14
    • Face-to-Face in Person County, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; April 17 – May 5

Defensive Driving  – offered monthly

This National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving course allows qualified drivers the chance to earn a reduction on a traffic infraction upon completion.

Ed2Go

Online, 6-week classes with LIVE instructors offered monthly – that’s Ed2Go! Did we mention there’s over 100 courses available and they begin at only $70 per course?

FREE PROGRAMS:

Employability Lab

This open lab provides employability skills training for unemployed and underemployed adults. Receive career counseling to make appropriate decisions about careers preferences, assessment of current skill levels related to their career choice, and training in the skill area in which remediation is needed. A formal assessment will determine skill appropriateness and identify employment opportunities.
