Piedmont Community College (PCC) has experienced a cyber-incident which was discovered on Monday, August 24 mid-day. The College has reached out to the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Cyber Incident Response Team. This team will be onsite August 25 to assist with a complete assessment of PCC’s systems.
In the meantime, out of an abundance of precautions, PCC’s critical systems, such as VPN access and other services, will be taken offline today (8/24) by 5:30 p.m.
At this time, it is not clear which systems have been impacted or that any data has been exposed. Our focus is getting critical services back online.
Blackboard: The team is working ensure that Blackboard access will remain available for faculty and students.
Phone systems: PCC’s phone systems are VPN based and may be interrupted.
Email Access: Available through the web-based version of Outlook.
Additional safeguards will be put into place moving forward and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
PCC’s Information Technology staff acted quickly to identify and escalate this matter. We expect to be able to provide an update late Tuesday (8/25) afternoon.
