The Patricia Knott Horner Scholarship was established to provide educational opportunities and financial support to Piedmont Community College (PCC) students who have come to the College from a homeschool background.

A Person County native, mother, and grandmother, Patricia Horner has dedicated much of her life to education. She provided a homeschool environment for her own children, one of whom has continued the tradition for another generation.

This endowment was created in her honor by her husband, William (Billy) Horner, who has been an active contributor to the PCC Foundation and served as a member of the Board of Directors for many years.

To create the new endowment, Billy took advantage of reaching a notable milestone when it comes to giving opportunities—he turned 70 and a half, the age when the IRS requires that individuals take a Required Minimum Distribution from tax deferred accounts (like a 401(k) or IRA). With important tax benefits of his own in mind, Billy utilized this half birthday to make a major difference.
A surprise dinner was held for Patricia Horner at the My Life Matters Warehouse on June 5, 2018, where PCC Foundation announced the new scholarship endowment created in her honor.
The PCC Foundation joined forces with My Life Matters to help Billy announce the endowment and surprise Patricia. This gift created the first scholarship for homeschooled students to attend PCC, a fitting tribute to Patricia and her years of commitment to homeschool teaching.

Scholarship applications are currently being accepted from High School and Homeschool seniors by the PCC Foundation through March 29.
