“In 2001, I was holding my newborn son…” that is how Selena Thornton’s educational journey at Piedmont Community College (PCC) began.

“I decided it was finally time to pursue a degree. I thought it would be a challenge since I had been out of school for so long. But the [PCC] admissions staff and faculty genuinely made the new change in my life a welcoming experience.”

Selena Thornton began classes in Spring 2002 in the Human Services program. She went on to graduate in 2006 with two Associate Degrees and several certificates. She continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received my Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration. Selena is currently two classes away from earning her Masters in Legal Studies from Trinity Law School with an expected Spring 2009 graduation date.

“The time I spent at Piedmont Community College was one of the most rewarding times of my life outside of being a mother.”

Staying connected to her alma mater, Selena is currently a of the PCC Alumni Partnership. “It is an honor to help give back in any way to this Community College family that stood by me and supported me during my time at PCC.”

She suggests that current and former students to participate in the #PCCPacerPride movement and make the most of their alumni experience. In addition, Selena encourages individuals, including her own son who is now a high school senior, to attend PCC, noting that “not only is it affordable, but I know the great quality of education he will receive at PCC.”
