PCC Tri-FUN-A-Thon is April 28
In 2011, Piedmont Community College (PCC) students
in the College’s Student Advisory Council wanted to come up with a project that
would allow them to help other students manage the costs of college tuition,
books, and additional expenses. The students teamed up with the PCC Foundation,
and the result was the first PCC 5K Fun Run/Walk event last spring. That
inaugural event, with its “Students Helping Students” theme, drew great participation
by some 75 runners and walkers and garnered over $1,700 for the PCC Foundation
to be used for student scholarships.
This year, PCC plans to increase the fun quotient by
expanding the effort to three events in the College’s first Tri-FUN-A-Thon on
Saturday, April 28. The day will begin with the second annual PCC 5K Run and
One Mile Fun Walk, followed by a Cornhole Tournament and a Two-Round Disc Golf
Tournament on the College’s new 18-hole disc golf course, dubbed the Rockness
Monster. All three events will be held on PCC’s Person County Campus in
“We’re adding the One-Mile Fun Walk as a result of
feedback we received from last year’s event,” said Elizabeth Townsend,
Executive Director, PCC Foundation. “We also wanted to feature the College’s exciting,
newly completed disc golf course, and round out the fun with the ever so
popular game of Cornhole.”
The Rockness Monster Disc Golf course, established last
year on PCC’s wooded nature trail, began with nine holes and has been expanded
to 19 holes this year. Although disc golf is a relatively new sport to Person
County, it is gaining in popularity, and PCC’s course is drawing favorable
reviews from many who play it.
In addition to the two-round tournament, a
beginners’ disc golf mini-round will be offered to those who would like to try
