Incoming PCC students, Cecelia Reynoso and Caleb Long, were awarded $1,250 scholarships from the Huyck Kuehn Education Scholarship

The Huyck Kuehn Education Scholarship awarded three scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to Person High School students on Thursday, July 30.

The scholarship to a four-year college was awarded to Maya Edwards, daughter of Bobby and Sylvia Edwards. Maya will receive $2,500 toward her tuition at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her chosen major is Biology, with a mind toward Pre-Med. Edwards graduated Person with a 4.1 GPA and was active in the Peer Group Connections as a leader.

A scholarship to a two-year college was awarded to Cecelia Reynoso, daughter of Issac and Mrs. G. Reynoso. Reynoso will receive $1,250 toward her tuition at Piedmont Community College. Her chosen major is Criminal Justice, with a mind toward becoming a social worker within her community. Reynoso graduated Person with a 3.6 GPA and was active in the Peer Group Connections as a mentor to freshman.

A scholarship to a two-year college was awarded to Caleb Long, son of Richard and Lacey Long. Long will receive $1,250 toward his tuition at Piedmont Community College. His chosen major is Computer Technician. Long built his own computer while attending PHS. He is active at Somerset Baptist Church where he was the Director of Youth Discipleship. Long has participated in many mission trips and is an active member of JROTC.

In addition, Maya Edwards and Caleb Long were awarded a laptop computer for their upcoming college studies. The Huyck Kuehn scholarship has also awarded a stipend to Piedmont Community College to assist the Student Emergency Fund in the amount of $600 for the 2020-2021 school year.

The scholarship program will be repeated for the Person High School graduating class of 2021. The scholarships will be awarded in the month of April 2021. If any senior student has an interest, he or she may contact Laquita Lipscomb, Professional School Counselor and Chairperson for the Student Services Team at PHS.
