Piedmont Community College offers a variety of short-term courses that can prepare students for work locally and regionally. In fact, many of PCC’s classes offer national or international certifications and graduates are automatically considered for interviews by local industries, including Polywood, GKN Driveline, and Spuntech Industries.
Upcoming short-term training includes:
Certified Production Technician:
Certified Production Technician (CPT) training will be held February 10 – March 31, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday on the Person County Campus. Polywood, GKN Driveline, and Spuntech Industries, Inc. are guaranteeing interviews to students who successfully complete this program.
This training offers industry-recognized credentials designed by the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council and extends certificates in the following areas:
• Safety Awareness
• Manufacturing Processes
• Quality Practices
• Maintenance Awareness
• OSHA-10 Safety certification
Financial assistance is available after attending PCC’s free Employability Lab session and completing scholarship/financial aid forms from partnering agencies. NEW! Certified Automotive Tire Service:
Certified Automotive Tire Service (ATS) is a certification program that provides in-depth and comprehensive instruction on the recommended procedures for servicing modern automobiles and light trucks. The first class will be held on February 15, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on PCC’s Caswell County Campus. Scholarships are available through www.nctda.com. http://www.nctda.com/
Certified ATS is designed for the professional passenger and light truck tire technician, allowing the subjects to range from the relationship between torque and clamping force to the TPMS relearn procedures on domestic and import vehicles.
Training also includes an exclusive module on Tire Conditions Analysis that uses images from TIA’s Passenger and Light Truck Tire Conditions Manual to educate technicians on the most likely reasons for common irregular treadwear patterns.
NEW! Firearm Maintenance:
PCC will hold an inaugural Firearm Maintenance training course February 20 – April 9, 6 -9 p.m. on PCC’s Caswell County Campus. This course is designed to give students a general knowledge of how to properly maintain firearms and is designed for the backyard target shooter or the weekend competition shooter. Topics include:
• Safety
• Proper cleaning methods
• Basic mechanics
The Firearm Maintenance course can be a gateway into PCC’s Gunsmithing or Public Safety Administration programs, as well as Handgun Safety for Concealed Carry Permit course.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A Truck Driver Training:
In collaborated with Trans-Tech, PCC offers a superior commercial driver’s license program. The partners polled the nation’s top trucking companies to ensure that PCC’s program is up-to-date and relevant. With smaller class sizes for one-on-one learning, students will be trained on an automatic transmission.
The CDL Class A Truck Driver credential can lead to a high-demand, high-paying career in as little as four weeks. The next two classes will be offered:
• Person County: February 10 – March 6, 8 a.m.–5p.m., Monday – Friday with an alternate schedule the last two weeks of class for night driving.
• Caswell County: March 9 – April 3, 8 a.m.–5p.m., Monday – Friday
Both schedules will have an alternate schedule the last two weeks of class to allow for night driving.
Electrical Contractors Re-certification:
The eight-hour Electrical Contractors Re-certification course will be held March 23 & 24, 6 – 10 p.m. at PCC’s Person County Campus. This annual course is designed to provide electrical contractors with updated information on the latest changes in the National Electric Code and NC Electric Code requirements. A code book will be needed for class.
