Celebrate the holidays with the hilarious Sanders Family in Sanders Family Christmas playing on the Kirby stage at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 13-14, and at 3 p.m., Dec. 15. This charming blue-grass musical is bound to enchant audiences so get your tickets early. Tickets are $20/$16/$10 (depending on seat and section), and students are always $8, regardless of what seat or section they choose.

Sanders Family Christmas is a sequel to the smash-hit musical Smoke on the Mountain (performed at the Kirby in 2018). This enchanting play follows the story of the Sanders family as they prepare for Christmas in a small North Carolina town: It’s the winter of 1941 in Mount Pleasant – the home of the Mount Pleasant Pickle Factory and the fun-loving Sanders Family Singers. With Christmas only a day away, young Dennis Sanders must face leaving his home and loved ones to join the war effort. Through the touching, heartfelt and truly hilarious support of his family, friends and community, Dennis learns the true meaning of “home.”

This musical is a special experience for director Ray Pearce, who previously directed Smoke on the Mountain at the Kirby in 2018, among many other Roxboro Little Theater productions.

“It has been such a great time working with this group…many of who are reprising their roles as members of the Sanders Family,” Pearce recalled. “This show is funny, however the story line is very deep on both a spiritual and on a human level. It reminds us just how important family and friends truly are.”

Love of family is a common theme for both the characters and the cast of Sanders Family Christmas. “Shows like Sanders Family Christmas are the reason I love theater – a show that is both funny and heartfelt, with a cast that truly is a second family,” said Trestney Moore, who plays the part of June Sanders.

Music runs through the entire production of Sanders Family Christmas. Many of the actors on stage play instruments throughout the show, and all cast members join in with their singing voices. Mike Moose, who plays the past of Burl Sanders and is the production’s music director says the audience will be intrigued by some of the unexpected turns the play takes. “It is a joy experiencing the Sanders family through the eyes of the father, Burl. They [the characters] all are adorably and hysterically unpredictable, and Burl’s love for each member of his family is absolutely steadfast.”

This Roxboro Little Theater production is made possible with support from the Person County Arts Council, the Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department and Piedmont Community College. Tickets can be purchased at the Kirby Gallery, over the telephone with Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express, or online at www.kirbytheater.com.
