Piedmont Community College (PCC) will host an induction ceremony for the Alpha Upsilon Theta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society on Friday, November 15 on the Person County Campus.

Informational sessions about PTK are being held, and a booth will be set-up at the Student Government Association Fall Fest activities scheduled for October 29 and 30.

The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is two-fold:
1) Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and
2) Provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service, and fellowship programming

To qualify, students must complete 12 credits and maintain a 3.5 GPA at PCC. Invitations have been mailed and recipients are encouraged to participate in the induction.

Tiffani Woods, PCC’s former PTK President and 2019 Graduate, shares her story: “In my initial encounter with Phi Theta Kappa, I was a little hesitant to get involved. I took all my [PCC] classes online, so I wasn’t familiar with any students on campus.”

As she learned more, Woods grew from her experience. “I started PTK as a hesitant, somewhat shy individual, but the experiences and opportunities that I have been given through PTK have been invaluable. Phi Theta Kappa has opened up so many doors for me.”

Woods believes that her involvement with PTK at Piedmont Community College was significant in her educational journey and enhanced her overall college encounter. “I encourage you all to get involved and be active in this chapter. The memories and experiences that you will have are such an incredible addition to your time at PCC.”
