On Tuesday, July 30 Piedmont Community College (PCC) will partner with City of Roxboro Police Chief David Hess to provide community members with information about vacation travel safety and human trafficking awareness.

The presentation, beginning at 6 p.m. on PCC’s Person County Campus in the Timberlake Art Gallery classroom (D-120), will also feature Alexandria Dean’s “My Redemption Story”. Dean is a survivor of human trafficking.

“Hearing first-hand experiences in areas such as human trafficking can be extremely challenging, but gaining a greater awareness will better prepare individuals to recognize risks. This mindfulness may potentially help us individually or assist another person in distress,” comments Hess.

Referring to travel safety and human trafficking, Hess goes on to say, “These topics are vital to enhancing community awareness and involvement in community safety. Everyone wants to enjoy their vacation free of harm and return to the safety of their home. Key points to help make this happen include being attentive of your surroundings, having knowledge of women’s personal defense, and gaining awareness of the signs of human trafficking.”

The presentation about vacation travel safety and human trafficking awareness is free and open to the public.

About Alexandria Dean:
Alexandria is a survivor of being human trafficked by her parents. Her impactful personal story will touch the hearts of the audience by emphasizing the importance of human trafficking awareness. Alexandria’s personal testimony of redemption includes authoring the book, “From Heaven to Hell and Back a Few Times.” The book expresses the challenges that many face with abuse, addictions, and human trafficking. Alexandria was the keynote speaker for Person County’s Human Trafficking community day.

About Chief David Hess:
Chief Hess is a fifteen-year law enforcement officer. He began his tenure with the City of Roxboro on June 1, 2015 with a vision for proactive community policing and organizational unity. Under his leadership, the police department has improved technology resources, provided career development training for staff, and are actively engaged in the community.

In fact, Hess is the Executive Director of the first ever Roxboro Police Activity & Athletic League (PAAL). Formed in December 2017, the RP-PAAL program is a non-profit organization targeting at risk students between 5th-8th grade. Public safety personnel mentor the students, help with homework, and coach/play sports with them to build sustainable life skills, with the hope of keeping them diverted from criminal activity.

In addition, Hess was awarded the International Association of Chiefs of Police 40 Under 40 Leadership award in October 2018 and is a graduate of the 264th Session FBI National Academy executive leadership program.

With a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Liberty University, Hess is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Executive Leadership from Liberty University. He has been married for fifteen years to his wife Laura. They have two boys, Emmet (12) and Jacob (10). David also has a son James (20). Chief Hess and his family are residents of the City of Roxboro. They are members of Antioch Baptist Church in Timberlake NC where David leads Discipleship training, co-teaches the Senior Saints Sunday School class and leads the safety ministry.
