This seminar is for all writers at all levels! Learn how to work as a fiction writer, a nonfiction writer, a blogger, or a poet.
During the seminar, these professional writers will offer you tips on writing, publishing, and marketing your work.
They will discuss both traditional and self-published work, sharing info on technique and advice on self-editing, as well as inside secrets on working with agents and publishers.
Schedule:
Morning: Small groups meet with instructors according to your chosen writing genre (fiction, nonfiction, blogs/poetry). We will discuss writing techniques, such as creating characters, setting, and tension; writing description and shaping narratives for various purposes; crafting interesting beginnings and appropriate endings; using differences in point of view; and editing your own work.
Lunch: Together with the workshop leader to talk about the writing life.
Afternoon: Panel discussion about the publishing business. The instructors will offer details on how to write a query letter, how to get an agent, how to market your work. We will be open to any questions seminar participants have about the writing/publishing business.
Meet the seminar leaders:
Dawn Reno Langley holds an MFA from Vermont College and a Ph.D. from The Union Institute and University. She’s widely published with 30+ books, hundreds of articles, essays, award-winning poetry, and short stories in literary magazines, such as The Green Mountains Review, Provo Canyon Review, and WomenArts Quarterly, to her credit. She has been a Fulbright Specialist, a fellow at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Vermont Studio Colony, Weymouth Arts and Humanities Center, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and recently offered a TEDx talk. She teaches in the MFA program at Southern New Hampshire University, and coaches/edits private clients. Her novel, The Mourning Parade, was released last year to stellar reviews, and her new book, You Are the Divine Feminine, will be released next year.
Jon Obermeyer is a native of Santa Barbara, CA, and completed an MFA in Creative Writing at UNC Greensboro. He is the author of seven books, including two collections of poetry, two short story collections, a memoir, a book of essays and a guide to creative writing.
His poems have appeared in The Greensboro Review, Northern Virginia Review, International Poetry Review, A Carolina Literary Companion, Spectrum (UC Santa Barbara), Blue Pitcher and Santa Barbara Magazine, and in the North Carolina anthology Edge of Our World. Obermeyer has edited business books and blogs on the topics of cloud computing, the immune system, project management, public accounting, social media selling and artificial intelligence. 
Carolyn Burns Bass has published fiction and nonfiction in magazines, newspapers, and blogs. Her short story, “Sketches Past and Present” appears in the anthology Best New Writing 2013. Her nonfiction writing and/or photos have appeared in magazines and media such as HuffPost, Prevue, California Meetings + Events, Incentive, Greer’s OC, Examiner.com, Riverside Press-Enterprise, Contemporary Christian Music, CCM, Charisma, and her personal blog, Ovations.
In 2009, Carolyn founded the #litchat used in Twitter for literary discussion and established the companion blog, LitChat. In the four years since its inception, #litchat has hosted dozens of authors for online conversation about reading and writing. Her new children’s book about the Bronte sisters will be released next year.
