Piedmont Community College (PCC) Cosmetology student Faith Horne said she was “inspired and motivated to learn additional skills” during a recent one-on-one lesson with stylists from Great Clips.

“The students and staff in PCC’s Cosmetology program understand that a great haircut sets the foundation for a great hairstyle, not to mention that it generates significant revenue within the beauty industry,” Dickerson noted.

During the training students focused on tapered cuts for men, blended haircuts using the clippers and various guards, and tapering techniques using shears, transitioning from short tapers to medium lengths within a haircut.

After the event, Horne went on to say that the activity “increased my confidence and enhanced my hands-on experience with cutting hair and knowledge of clipper cutting.”

This partnership was a win-win situation, as Great Clips Representative Cathy Dingman commented, “We appreciate being able to come to your school and participate in learning with you and your students! I think everyone is richer today for having participated!Myiah Shaw learning with her instructor

PCC student Courtney Conway felt like the learning opportunity offered a great lesson and an idea about the future. “The Great Clips workshop was ideal for a student like myself,” she said. “It was very helpful that Great Clips brought along very skilled and friendly employees to walk us through the haircuts. They interacted extremely well and made the effort to get know our dreams and aspirations. Having someone skilled in the specific industry of cutting hair, opened my eyes to the opportunities that lie ahead of me upon graduation from PCC’s Cosmetology [program].”

Cynthia Dixion, an instructor in PCC’s Cosmetology program felt like the event offered more than haircutting experience. “Talking with experienced stylists about the beauty industry gave [PCC students] a real life picture of what to expect after graduation. It inspired them to continue to work hard and tap into their creativity.”
