The GKN Foundation placed a priority on education with a recent donation to the Piedmont Community College (PCC) Foundation. This gift was unrestricted, allowing the Foundation staff to use the funds in the area where it is most needed. “GKN is proud to support PCC and our community,” remarked Barbara Waldron, HR Manager at GKN.

Through the support of businesses, organizations, and individuals, Piedmont Community College has become an institution that empowers individuals to build better lives. Better lives through short-term training, earned degrees and national credentials, and new experiences that broaden goals and spark interests.

“We at the PCC Foundation are so fortunate to live and work in a community where businesses and individuals believe in the value of education,” noted Executive Director Allison Satterfield. “We are grateful to GKN for this gift, and look forward to the opportunities our students will gain as a result of dedicated community partners this year.”

The PCC Foundation relies on contributions to support the following programs:

Scholarship Program
With annual and endowed scholarships, the PCC Foundation is able to award funds to students who are interested in improving their education but are lacking financial aid options. A dedicated committee of volunteers reviews scholarship applications multiple times per year to ensure that the most deserving and serious students are assisted in their journey at PCC.

Student Incentive Program
Students who earn their high school equivalency diploma at PCC and are interested in beginning their college education, have the opportunity to receive funds to assist with paying for their first course. The goal is to encourage the student to continue his or her success in the classroom!

Ambassador Program
Three Student Ambassadors are selected to represent the College and the PCC Foundation at various College functions each year. The students are nominated by faculty and staff and interviewed for this notable position. Each Ambassador is awarded a scholarship to assist with their tuition, books, and fees.

Mini-Grant Program
PCC Foundation Mini-Grant funds encourage faculty and staff to discover innovative projects that will benefit PCC students, the College, and the community. These projects may fulfill a current student need or create new opportunities for those at PCC.

Professional Development Program
Faculty and staff at PCC have the opportunity to improve their skills as it pertains to their position as the College. This funding benefits the employees, as well as the student and community by maintaining a high level of quality in instruction and services.

Excellence Program
A peer-based committee determines when a faculty or staff member goes above and beyond the call of duty through teaching or other service to the students, College, and community.
