Piedmont Community College (PCC) offers classes that begin the week of October 12 for students interested in starting their education or earning additional credits during the Fall 2017 semester.
Classes include:
CIS 110 – Introduction to Computer
• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 – 7:20 p.m.
• Topics include: descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, basic probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and function of computers and use the computer to solve problems.

CJC 132 – Court Procedure & Evidence
• Offered as an online course
• Topics include: consideration of state and federal courts, arrest, search and seizure laws, exclusionary and statutory rules of evidence, and other related issues.
• Upon completion students should be able to identify and discuss procedures necessary to establish a lawful arrest/search, proper judicial procedures, and the admissibility of evidence.

Developmental Math
• Offered at a variety of times
• These classes provide an opportunity to customize developmental math content in specific developmental math areas.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of their specific developmental math area of content.

Integrated Reading and English
• Offered at a variety of times
• These classes are designed to develop proficiency in integrated and contextualized reading and writing skills and strategies.
• Topics include: reading and writing processes, critical thinking strategies, and recognition and composition of well-developed, coherent, and unified texts; except where noted, these topics are taught at a reinforcement level using texts primarily in a Lexile (TM) range of 1070 to 1220.

Gunsmithing
• Various levels offered at a variety of times
• The Gunsmithing curriculum is designed to provide students with the required skills needed to refurbish metal and wood as applicable to firearms, to diagnose malfunctions for repair, and to accomplish more complex custom gunsmithing tasks.
• Course work includes: manufacturing of tools used in the gunsmithing trade, restoration of firearms, stock making, barrel work, repair work, and custom work. The student will accomplish this work by performing actual gunsmithing tasks in a “hands-on” environment.

HSC 110 – Orientation to Health Careers
• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Wednesday, 1 – 2:50 p.m.
• Topics include: professional duties and responsibilities, working environments, and various health career choices.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the health care professions and be prepared to make informed career choices.

MED 122 – Medical Terminology II
• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 – 10:45 a.m., as well as online
• Topics include: medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems.
• Upon completion students should be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms as related to selected body systems and their pathological disorders.

NAS 102 – Nurse Aide II
• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. with labs on Tuesday and Thursday
• Topics include: the role of the Nurse Aide II, sterile technique and specific tasks such as urinary catheterization, wound care, respiratory procedures, ostomy care, peripheral IV assistive activities, and alternative feeding methods.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills and safe performance of skills necessary to be eligible for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide II Registry.
• Prerequisite: Listing as a CNA I on the North Carolina Nursing Assistant Registry

PBT 100 – Phlebotomy Technology
• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9 – 11:50 a.m. with labs in the afternoon
• Topics include: instruction in the skills needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate competence in the theoretical comprehension of phlebotomy techniques.
