Piedmont Community College (PCC) offers classes that begin the week of September 6 and the week of October 12 to help those interested in starting their education or earning additional credits during the Fall 2017 semester.

Classes beginning the week of September 6 include:

MAT 152 – Statistical Methods (transferable)

• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Tuesday and Thursday, 1-3:50 p.m.
• Pre-approved as a Universal General Education Transfer Core course and should transfer to public universities in the NC system.
• Description: provides a project-based approach to introductory statistics with an emphasis on using real-world data and statistical literacy.
• Topics include: descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, basic probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing.
• Upon completion students should be able to use appropriate technology to describe important characteristics of a data set, draw inferences about a population from sample data, and interpret and communicate results.

MED 118 – Medical Law and Ethics
• Offered on PCC’s Caswell County Campus on Monday – Friday, 8:15-9:30 a.m.
• Class for high school students.
• Description: covers legal relationships of physicians and patients, contractual agreements, professional liability, malpractice, medical practice acts, informed consent, and bioethical issues. Emphasis is placed on legal terms, professional attitudes, and the principles and basic concepts of ethics and laws involved in providing medical services.
• Upon completion students should be able to meet the legal and ethical responsibilities of a multi-skilled health professional.

PSY 150 – General Psychology (transferable)

• Offered on PCC’s Person and Caswell County campuses on Monday, 9-10:35 a.m.
• Pre-approved as a Universal General Education Transfer Core course and should transfer to public universities in the NC system.
• Description: provides an overview of the scientific study of human behavior. Topics include history, methodology, biopsychology, sensation, perception, learning, motivation, cognition, abnormal behavior, personality theory, social psychology, and other relevant topics.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the science of psychology.

PSY 241 – Developmental Psychology

• Offered on PCC’s Person and Caswell County campuses on Friday, 1-2:35 p.m.
• Description: a study of human growth and development. Emphasis is placed on major theories and perspectives as they relate to the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial aspects of development from conception to death.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of development across the life span.

SOC 210 – Introduction to Sociology (transferable)
• Offered on PCC’s Person County Campus on Monday, 5:30-7 p.m.
• Pre-approved as a Universal General Education Transfer Core course and should transfer to public universities in the NC system.
• Description: introduces the scientific study of human society, culture, and social interactions. Topics include socialization, research methods, diversity and inequality, cooperation and conflict, social change, social institutions, and organizations.
• Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of sociological concepts as they apply to the interplay among individuals, groups, and societies.
