In 2013, the Person Memorial Hospital (PMH) Auxiliary donated $25,000 to the Piedmont Community College (PCC) Foundation, creating a new scholarship endowment. This year, members of the Auxiliary contributed another $18,000 to the fund, increasing the number of scholarships that will be awarded to PCC students.

The scholarship was originally established to assist new graduates from PCC’s Nursing program with funds for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination – Register Nurse) exam and for currently enrolled students in a clinical based medical program, such as the Certified Nursing, Phlebotomy, Medical Assisting and Healthcare Technology programs. Education costs covered for current students include tuition, fees, textbooks, and supplies directly related to the program of study.

“Members of the [Person Memorial Hospital (PMH) Auxiliary] Board of Directors were interested in helping more students studying healthcare.” shared Jo Mooney, Auxiliary representative. It was determined that the best way to accomplish this goal was by increasing the current PCC Foundation scholarship endowment. “We believe that investing in education through our already established PCC Foundation scholarship was our best opportunity to support these students.”

Auxiliary members gathered at PMH to give the donation to Allison Satterfield, Executive Director of the PCC Foundation. In addition, PCC’s new president, Dr. Pamela G. Senegal, had the opportunity to meet with PMH Auxiliary members. “On behalf of the healthcare students at Piedmont Community College who will directly benefit from the generosity of Person Memorial Auxiliary’s’ recent donation, we are extremely grateful! This investment in the future of quality healthcare in our region is exactly how we ensure a strong community for years to come,” she shared.

About Person Memorial Hospital Auxiliary:
The Person Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is a group of volunteers who offer their service to our local hospital. The Auxiliary was created in 1991 to provide assistance to hospital staff and patients, as well as to conduct fund-raisers to assist with the purchase of equipment and items not approved in the hospital budget.

Daily the volunteers see the care, concern and compassion exhibited by Person Memorial’s staff to their patients and residents. It is the Auxiliary’s desire to assist those staff members wishing to advance their education. Therefore the Auxiliary is pleased to establish an endowment that will provide scholarships for Piedmont Community College students entering or advancing their clinical health skills.
