Piedmont Community College (PCC) invites high school students to participate in free, hands-on summer activities this year to help them learn about various programs of study and career options!
Those participating will discover the world of welding, health sciences, cosmetology, animation, power production, electrical systems, film and video, mechatronics, and industrial system through interactive experiences with PCC faculty while on the college campuses. The various opportunities include:
Institute for Technical Career Exploration
This program, offered June 19-22, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. encourages students to explore technical programs offered at Piedmont Community College. The Institute highlights exciting and unique technical programs, including: Digital Effects and Animation Technology, Electrical Power Production Technology, Electrical Systems Technology, Film and Video Production Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, and Mechatronics Engineering Technology.
Participants will travel to both of PCC’s campuses in Person and Caswell counties, as well as local manufacturing plants for tours (transportation provided). Students should bring lunch on Monday-Wednesday; the PCC Foundation will provide a meal on Thursday for participants and guests. This free experience is open to 40 rising 10th -12th graders from any school.

Learn the difference between a MIG and a TIG weld, as well as other welding terminology and equipment safety in this free camp. The Welding Camp will be held June 21-23, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on PCC’s Person County Campus to rising 10th-12th graders. Applications are due by June 19. Exploring Health Sciences Camp
Thinking you might be interested in a health science career, such as nursing, nurse aid, medical assisting, or phlebotomy? If so, PCC’s Exploring Health Sciences Camp is for you! Participants will be introduced to the various careers through demonstration, hands-on experiences, role playing, and visits to area health care facilities such as Person Memorial Hospital. This is an ideal environment for rising 9th – 12th graders to learn about the exciting field of health sciences. This camp will be held on PCC’s Person County Campus on June 26-29, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. with instructor Brandy Gentry. During this free camp, rising 10th – 12th graders will learn about the wonderful world of hair, skin, and nails! This may include braiding, flat ironing, skincare, makeup, manicures, pedicures, first aid, and sanitation! This camp will take place June 26-29, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on PCC’s Caswell County Campus and 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on PCC’s Person County Campus.
