Job seekers can get a head start with free workforce development classes through Piedmont Community College (PCC) in the New Year. Some classes include:

Resumes and Cover Letters: January 9 – 11
This class is held on Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at PCC’s Caswell County Campus. Participants will learn how to build a professional resume and eye-capturing cover letter in the 12 hour class. Students will also be provided with resume’ paper and a flash drive.

Introduction to Computers for Job Seekers: January 10 – 31
This class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at PCC’s Caswell County Campus. Students will have the opportunity to learn basic computer skills, such as setting up an email account, formatting documents in Microsoft Word, attaching documents to emails, and creating, saving, and printing various documents. Students will also learn the role of information technology in the workplace.

Job Applications: January 12 – 31
This class is also held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon (1 – 4 p.m.) on PCC’s Caswell County Campus, allowing students to participate in the Introduction to Computers class. During the Job Applications course, students will learn how to thoroughly and accurately complete a hard copy job application and an online job application. The instructor will also provide advice about what to share on an application to make a great impression!

Career & Technology Lab: January 28 – May 6
This Saturday class will be held at Gunn Memorial Library in Yanceyville and offers basic computer and word processing skills training, employability skills, and assistance with resume and cover letter building. Classes are free for unemployed and underemployed individuals and is sponsored by LSTA funds awarded by the State Library of North Carolina.

Basic Computer Skills for the Job Search: February 2 – 23
Offered in the morning (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.) on Tuesday and Thursdays, students will have the opportunity to learn basic computer skills, such as setting up an email account, formatting documents in Microsoft Word, attaching documents to emails, and creating, saving, and printing various documents. Students will also learn the role of information technology in the workplace. This class is on PCC’s Caswell County Campus.

Job Interviews: February 7 – 23
Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 – 4 p.m. on PCC’s Caswell County Campus, this class will help students communicate their strengths and abilities during a job interview. Tips for highlighting accomplishments and successes, as well as important skills will be a focus.

All of these offerings are free for unemployed, underemployed and those who meet other set criteria. Most classes are held on PCC’s Caswell County Campus, located at 331 Piedmont Drive in Yanceyville.
