PCC’s Continuing Education program will offer BioWork, a course that focuses on entry-level training for jobs in the growing biotechnology manufacturing field. The course prepares men and women for employment as process technicians within bioprocess, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing companies. The rigorous 128-hour course covers topics such as work place safety, chemistry, process control, and microbiology.
The 16-week BioWork course will begin August 16 and end December 13. Class will meet each Tuesday, 2 – 6 p.m. on the Person County campus and includes 64-hours of classroom instruction and additional online instruction. Class participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 16 students.
Units of instruction include: Your New Job; Working Safely; Quality; Measuring Process Variables; Transforming Matter (Chemistry); Learning the Nuts & Bolts; Controlling the Process; Sterile Processes (Microbiology); Growing Living Cells (Cell Biology); and Job Seeking Skills.
BioWork Process Technician course cost includes a $180 registration fee, $1.25 accident insurance, and $138.78 (including tax) for textbooks.
