The Arc of Person County, Inc., an organization that is committed to advocacy and education for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and service providers, recently created a scholarship endowment for Piedmont Community College (PCC) students.

Nancy Garrett, Executive Director of The Arc of Person County, along with President Phyllis Gentry, presented Piedmont Community College President, Dr. Walter Bartlett with a check for $10,000 at their board meeting on Thursday, June 16.

The earnings from this scholarship endowment will support second year PCC students who are enrolled in one of the following programs:
• Early Childhood Associate
• Human Services Technology
• Associate Degree Nursing
• Medical Assisting
• Criminal Justice Technology or
• College Transfer program with plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the field of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities

These programs of study were selected knowing that their future occupations will cause them to have direct contact with children and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

In addition to the new scholarship endowment at Piedmont Community College, The Arc of Person County will continue to award individual scholarships to those who need assistance with continuing education classes or classes outside of PCC.
