Through the gracious gifts of Piedmont Community College (PCC) supporters, the PCC Foundation is able to award over 100 scholarships each year. Scholarships are granted from permanent endowment funds or through annual contributions.
Scholarship criteria varies, however most require a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or higher. A portion of the scholarships are based solely on merit while others have a financial need element. Applicants are required to complete an online application (available on March 15), provide updated unofficial transcript(s), and submit two letters of recommendations.
The competition for summer and early fall scholarships will be held March 15 – April 15. A second round of awards will be available for fall funding closer to the start of the semester. Spring scholarship applications are also available later in the year.
“I would like to remind potential applicants that not all of our scholarships are need-based,” said Patti Clayton, Program Coordinator, PCC Foundation. “We have many scholarships that are academically based or are for a specific program of study.”
Three $1,500 scholarships are also awarded from the Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees. These scholarships are presented to the top-ranked graduating senior from Person High School, Roxboro Community School, and Bartlett Yancey High School who also submit a PCC Foundation scholarship application.
In addition, the PCC Alumni Partnership will award a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Person County and Caswell County. Funds for this scholarship are raised from sponsorships and ticket sales at Pickin’ by the Lake, a bluegrass festival held the first Saturday in September.
All PCC Foundation first round scholarship applications are reviewed by a committee and awarded in May. Once awards are announced, recipients are required to write a thank you note to the donor of the scholarship they receive. They are also asked to assist with one College event during the academic year.

Students are also encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To complete, students can visit www.Fafsa.ed.gov or stop by PCC’s Financial Aid Office for assistance in completing the application. When completing or making edits to the FAFSA, students and parents are strongly recommended to utilize the IRS data retrieval option. Furthermore, applicants are asked to bring the following items with them when asking for assistance: 2015 federal tax returns (student’s, spouse’s, and/or parent’s), 2015 W-2 forms, and 2015 sources of untaxed income. The priority deadline is April 6 for the 2016-17 FAFSA application.
