Piedmont Community College (PCC) has selected two Student Ambassadors for the 2015-2016 academic year. They are: Savannah Allen of Hurdle Mills and Jennifer Tillman of Roxboro. The students will serve as official student representatives of the College at community and school functions. They will also serve as greeters, conduct tours, and assist in other ways at College functions.
Allen, a 2015 graduate of Person High School, is currently enrolled in the Health Sciences: Therapeutic and Diagnostic Services Program at PCC. She plans to apply for the Associate Degree Nursing program with the goal of working in pediatric oncology or a pediatric intensive care unit, where she can “be emotionally involved and touch the lives of children.”
Prior to beginning her studies at PCC, Allen researched 10 unique schools with nursing programs. After being accepted to all 10, she determined her best choice was attending PCC. “I am so glad I chose to stay home and take classes at PCC,” commented Allen. “It’s affordable and offers the program I’m interested in learning. PCC offers everything I need!”
While in high school, Allen enrolled in Career and College Promise courses, taking Medical Assisting, English, Psychology and Sociology courses and maintained a grade point average of 3.6. In addition, she was a member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America, Key Club, and Student Council.
“As PCC Ambassador I will have the ability to reach out and tell others that PCC is not just a community college. There is no other place that would have supported me the way the people at PCC have and I want to show more people that you can get everything you need right here at Piedmont Community College.”
Tillman is currently enrolled in the Medical Office Administration program and expects to graduate in May 2016. Tillman has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, putting her on the President’s List each semester. She is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society, and was the first PCC student to obtain a Microsoft certification. In addition, Tillman is an active community member (currently volunteering for the Red Cross and being a former Firefighter/First Responder for Moriah Volunteer Fire and Rescue).
“Jennifer is very proud to be a student at Piedmont Community College,” wrote Merlette Walker, instructor/coordinator, medical office administration at PCC. “She expresses her enthusiasm with the other students to help them become engaged while at PCC. She shares information about clubs, scholarships, the TRIO program, and more.”
When receiving the news about becoming an Ambassador, Tillman remarked, “It is with great pleasure that I accept the position as a Piedmont Community College Student Ambassador. It is an honor to represent a school that prides itself in providing an environment that promotes lifelong learning. I look forward to carrying this mission forward by sharing my personal experiences, working with current and potential students, and assisting with campus and community events.”
The PCC Ambassadors are an honorary group of students who have been nominated, interviewed and selected by faculty and staff to represent the College. They receive scholarships administered through the PCC Foundation, sponsor for the Ambassadors program. In 2014, the Jacqueline Hall Moore Student Ambassador endowment was establish to support future students.
