Piedmont Community College’s (PCC) public information and marketing team has received recognition for excellence by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) for two if its major marketing pieces. The team, composed of Bonnie Davis, Director, Public Information; and Kevin Tyburski, Webmaster/Graphic Designer, received the awards in the NCMPR’s annual Medallions Awards District 2 competition. These were a Gold award for its Fall 2014 Class Schedule booklet, published last summer, and a Bronze award for its PCC Today: A Report to the Community, published last spring.
“We are honored and privileged to have two of the finest and most creative publishing minds around located here at PCC,” said Dr. Walter Bartlett, PCC President. “Bonnie and Kevin consistently develop informative marketing products that are also very creative and innovative. It comes as no surprise to me that they have been honored with these awards.”
The Gold medal award went to the College’s Fall 2014 Class Schedule publication, a totally-new 44-page booklet printed for the first time last July. The publication highlighted both PCC’s Curriculum and Continuing Education programs and services in one publication. Printed twice yearly, the booklet is mailed to all households in Person and Caswell counties and is a major communication tool for current and prospective students.
The College received the Silver award for its annual report, a magazine called PCC Today: a Report to the Community. The 24-page publication is a cooperative venture between PCC’s Public Information Office and the PCC Foundation. It highlights people, awards, and stories about PCC and also features the PCC Foundation and its services and supporters.
“Both of these award-winning publications are relatively new ones for PCC,” said Davis. “So it is great to receive awards that recognize our efforts to represent PCC to the communities we serve in the best possible way. We are also grateful for these recognitions since they allow us to showcase PCC not just locally, but also on the national level that this competition provides.”
The awards were presented at a recent NCMPR (National Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations) conference in Nashville, Tenn. NCMPR, an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, is a professional organization serving two-year college communicators by providing seminars, webinars, a summer institute, relevant information on emerging marketing and public relations trends, and connections community college colleagues.
