The starting date has been changed for two new cooking classes to be offered by Piedmont Community College (PCC).  “Baking and Pastries: Part 1,” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 22-Oct. 22, from 1:30-5 p.m., and “The Art of Cooking: Part 1,” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 23-Oct. 30, from 1:30-5 p.m. at the Caswell County Senior Center, 649 Firetower Rd., Yanceyville. Nancy Gould will be the instructor.

The Baking and Pastries introductory class will cover the basics such as ingredients, techniques, weights and measures, terminology, and formula calculations. Course topics will include cakes and cookies, icings and glazes, basic bread making, and pies and tarts.

The Art of Cooking class course topics include: basic safety and sanitation; basic knife skills; preparation of basic stocks and “mother” sauces; cooking techniques including stir-fry, sauté, grilling, pan-frying, roasting, and steaming; plating and presentation; and table setting and professional service.

Class fee for each class is $125. Financial assistance is available to qualified students. Fees must be paid by Friday, Sept. 19. Register by calling Kathleen Kersey at (336) 694-8064.
