In partnership with Pole Star Experimental Learning, Piedmont Community College (PCC) now offers a virtual work-based learning (WBL) opportunity for students in a variety of programs.

Virtual WBL is completely online. In the online environment, students will work with their development leader coach at Pole Star to determine their professional goals. Throughout the semester, students are matched with real employers and are given industry specific work assignments. The Pole Star development leader coach works with the students every week to ensure they are completing their tasks and developing soft skills.

This real-world learning opportunity is available for students enrolled in the following curriculum or continuing education program:
• Professional Medical Coding and Billing
• Digital Effects and Animation Technology
• Office Administration
• Medical Office Administration
• Accounting
• Business Administration
• Information Technology

Virtual WBL will be offered year-round and will be available for any students in the programs listed above. This course is also covered under the student’s tuition cost. Students will need access to the internet and a computer for the required number of course hours to be successful in this program.

To enroll in a WBL course ( WBL 111, 112 or 3100) at PCC, current students should work with their advisor or contact Kimberly Bowen, PCC’s Coordinator of Work-Based Learning, at (336) 322-2245 or Kimberly.Bowen@piedmontcc.edu.

More about Pole Star Experiential Learning:
Pole Star Experiential Learning had its beginnings as an Experiential Learning Internship at the college level. Kevin A. Cojanu, Ph.D., founder and president, wanted to do something that would be a game-changer in the world of business to make a difference in the lives of everyday people and to change how people achieve success in the workplace. He has been developing and continues perfecting an experiential learning model with virtual internships that we have come to know today as Pole Star Experiential Learning, or PSEL.
