ABS Orientation & Placement Test Sessions
Free Adult Basic Skills classes at PCC prepare students for high school equivalency test or to enter workforce
Each week from September 23 – October 17, Piedmont Community College’s (PCC) Adult Basic Skills (ABS) program will offer orientation and placement test sessions for any new students interested in enrolling in free 12-week classes (held October 7-December 16).
Orientation sessions will be offered during the day and evening at the Person and Caswell County campuses. Here is the schedule:
Person County Campus:
September 24 & 25 – 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
October 1 & 2 – 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
October 8 & 9 – 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
October 14 & 15 – 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Caswell County Campus:
October 1 & 2 – 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
October 7 & 8 – 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
October 9 & 10 – 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
October 14 & 15 – 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
October 16 & 17 – 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Interested individuals are required to pre-register and attend one of the two-day sessions prior to starting the free Adult Basic Skills coursework.
Previously enrolled students who have been out of the program for 90 days or more also need to attend an orientation and placement test session to begin re-taking classes.
After the orientation and placement test session is complete, students may enter the Adult Basic Skills class. There are various options available this fall.
October 7- December 16 Class Options:
New evening classes held (all subjects):
• Person County Campus – Wednesday, 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. (hybrid class*)
• Person County Campus – Monday and Wednesday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
• Caswell County Campus – Monday, 4 – 7:30 p.m. (hybrid class*)
• Caswell County Campus – Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Day classes held:
• Person County Campus – Monday-Thursday, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. (Math & Science)
• Person County Campus – Monday-Thursday, 12 – 3 .m. (Language Arts & Social Studies)
• Caswell County Campus – Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. (all subjects)
* For convenience, hybrid classes are noted above. These classes are held with a portion of the class online and the other portion face-to-face on the specified day through PCC’s Adult Basic Skills program.
About the Program:
ABS classes assist adults in learning the foundation skills (reading, writing, math, computer literacy, social studies, and science) needed to pass a high school equivalency test (HiSET® or GED® test) or to become college or work ready.
In addition, English as a Second Language classes are offered to foreign born adults who need to learn or improve their communication skills (written and oral) and/or prepare for their US citizenship exam.
