The Person County Board of Commissioners appointed Joel B. Adler to the Piedmont Community College (PCC) Board of Trustees. Adler will begin his trustee duties in October 2020.

Over a span of 34 years, Adler served in numerous positions at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Virginia, making him an excellent candidate to join the PCC Board. After working with students enrolled in the Opticianry program for 15 years, Adler transitioned to Program Director and served another five.

Following this 20 year stint, he expanded his role by becoming the Associate Dean, followed by Acting Dean, in the School of Nursing and Allied Health (SNAH). Two years later, Adler was called on to filled the position of Associate Dean in the School of Engineering and Business, during which time he also served as the lead administrator of the College’s Goochland Campus.

The experience Adler gained at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College will be of great resource to the PCC Team. From faculty to administration, he has a keen understanding of the various institutional needs. In fact, Adler was the SNAH faculty senate representative and then the president of the Administrative Faculty Senate, once he migrated to an administrative role.

Prior to his professional career in higher education, Adler served 4 years in the Air Force, including a year in Nha Trang Air Base, Viet Nam. After retiring in 2011, Adler moved to North Carolina to be closer to his family, and especially is granddaughter.

“It is with great pleasure that I join the Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees,” comments Alder. “Thirty years of experience in Community College education will be of great use in this new role.”
