Piedmont Community College’s Educational Opportunity Center awarded five year grant renewal to continue serving 10 counties in North Carolina

In mid-August, Piedmont Community College (PCC) learned that a grant for its Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) would be renewed for another five years, allowing the staff to continue offering free services to 2,500 individuals per year.

Enrollment Opportunities for PCC’s Adult Basic Skills Classes

Both of PCC’s campuses provide free traditional and online Adult Basic Skills classes to prepare students for high school equivalency tests, GED® or HiSET®. The instructors also help students set educational goals and guide them in achieving their goals of transitioning into occupational training, college, or work. Academic, computer, and various test preparation is offered.

PCC’s use of quantitative reasoning spreads across the curricula

Lisa Cooley, Director, Quality Enhancement Plan, explains, “Fall 2016 begins QR4U’s fourth year of implementation. Faculty are teaching 34 activities in 12 distinct courses that cover a variety of general education classes. These activities will help students sharpen their quantitative reasoning skills.”

Certified Logistics Technician orientation and training available at PCC’s Workforce Training Center

FREE Orientation to CLT will be August 30 – September 8; full CLT training scheduled for September 19 – October 11. The CLT training provides two credentials: Certified Logistics Associate and a mid-level Certified Logistics Technician. These certificates meet the national skills demand which prepares individuals for frontline material handling work in factories, warehouses, distribution centers and transporters. There are local jobs available in logistics starting at $16/hr.
