UNCG bringing RN to BSN program to Piedmont Community College
Nurses in Person and Caswell counties will soon have a new way to take the next step in their education and career.
Piedmont Community College is partnering with The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
to bring a world-class RN to BSN program closer to the nurses who serve the area. The partnership will provide a seamless transition for registered nurses with associate’s degrees to earn a bachelor’s degree from UNCG while bypassing the one hour and 15 minute drive to Greensboro.
“It’s the same program, it’s just on their [PCC’s] campus,” said Jacqueline Debrew, UNCG’s RN to BSN coordinator.
This move is a part of a nationwide effort to increase the number of nurses with bachelor’s degrees.
“This is a great opportunity for students from a rural community to have a way to obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing and further their education,” commented Alisa Montgomery, Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services and Director of ADN Education at Piedmont Community College. “PCC has always strived to maintain a standard of excellence. I think this partnership will continue that standard of excellence and allow them [PCC nursing students] to be even better nurses when they finish the RN to BSN program.”
Dean of UNCG’s School of Nursing
Dr. Robin Remsburg and Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam signed the agreement on March 15, along with Piedmont Community College President Dr. Walter Bartlett and Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services
and Director of ADN Education
Alisa Montgomery. Classes will begin in January 2017.
“PCC is the institution of higher learning for Person County and Caswell counties. A lot of people look to us for their educational needs. This [partnership] is a way for us to stay within our mission and still provide our communities with 4-year degrees,” said Dr. Walter Bartlett, president, Piedmont Community College.
