BioWork Process Technician Certification Prep Training available at PCC

Piedmont Community College’s Continuing Education program will offer BioWork, a course that brings together the basics of manufacturing technology and the fundamentals of science – two essential needs for competent, entry-level technicians working in biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and chemical manufacturing. Train now for a career in bio-manufacturing for only $321.25 (registration: $180, books $140, and insurance fee $1.25).

The 16-week BioWork course will be held Jan. 9 through May 14. Class will meet each Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with the exception of Feb. 20, March 26, and April 23. BioWork will be held on the Person County campus in room F209. The 128-hour course includes 64-hours classroom instruction and additional online instruction. Class participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 16 students. The registration deadline is Jan. 5.

The BioWork course provides marketable skills for manufacturing technicians in the Biotech field. Bioprocess technicians are involved in the making of products such as antibiotics, bleach, cosmetics, deodorant, detergents, paint, plastics, Post-It notes, shampoo, soft drinks and wine.

Units of instruction include: Your New Job; Working Safely; Quality; Measuring Process Variables; Transforming Matter (Chemistry); Learning the Nuts & Bolts; Controlling the Process; Sterile Processes (Microbiology); Growing Living Cells (Cell Biology); and Job Seeking Skills.

Students may take the BioWork Certification test after completing this training (test cost is $55).
