Jennifer Tillman became the first Piedmont Community College student to successfully pass the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel 2013 certification test. Tillman is currently a student in the Medical Office Administration program at PCC. During the spring 2015 semester, she enrolled in the CTS130-Spreadsheets course taught by Donna Smith.

Upon learning that she passed the exam Tillman shared, “The certification exam was very challenging. However, the CTS130-Spreadsheet course properly prepared me to earn the Microsoft Excel Level 1 certification. I look forward to listing this certification on my resume when applying for a medical office or business administrative position.”

Tillman was able to take the exam at no charge because PCC is an official Microsoft IT Academy with a Certiport Testing Center. This status allows current students, staff, and faculty to sit for MOS Certification tests at no charge.

As an official Microsoft IT Academy, PCC is able to assist students with acquiring skills on the latest technologies which also helps students become better collaborators, communicators, critical thinkers, innovators, problem solvers, and citizens of our global economy.

Earning an MOS certification credential proves that the individual has the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office desktop programs. It also provides a useful tool to measure a person’s capabilities when being screened or selected for employment.

“I would like to thank Piedmont Community College for offering Microsoft Certification testing. This helps students show they have learned the appropriate skills to meet industry standards. I plan to take more Microsoft courses at Piedmont Community College and attempt to earn additional certifications. I highly encourage all students to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity,” commented Tillman.

PCC currently offers the following curriculum courses which can help prepare students for various MOS tests:

  • Access (DBA110) – in the fall with Donna Smith
  • Excel (CTS130) in the fall with Wanda Gill or Donna Smith
  • PowerPoint (CTS125) in the spring with Wanda Gill or Donna Smith
  • Word (OST136/236) in the fall and spring with Wanda Duncan

Watch for the PCC fall brochure coming in July to your mailbox for additional course information. You can register at any time at PCC (Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) with extended registration hours being offered July 21 and 22 (open until 6:30 p.m.).
