BioWork Process Technician Certification Prep Training at PCC
Enroll by May 29 for Piedmont Community College’s (PCC) BioWork training course that starts Tuesday, June 3.
PCC’s Continuing Education program will offer BioWork, a course that brings together the basics of manufacturing technology and the fundamentals of science – two essential needs for competent, entry-level technicians working in biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and chemical manufacturing.
The 9-week BioWork course will start June 3 and end Aug. 5, 2014. Class will meet each Tuesday and Thursday from 5-9 p.m. on the Person County Campus and includes 64-hours of classroom instruction and additional online instruction. Class will not meet July 3, 24 or 31. Class participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 16 students.
The 128-hour BioWork course provides marketable skills for manufacturing technicians in the biotechnology field. Bioprocess technicians are involved in the making of products such as antibiotics, bleach, cosmetics, deodorant, detergents, paint, plastics, Post-It notes, shampoo, soft drinks and wine.
Units of instruction include: Your New Job; Working Safely; Quality; Measuring Process Variables; Transforming Matter (Chemistry); Learning the Nuts & Bolts; Controlling the Process; Sterile Processes (Microbiology); Growing Living Cells (Cell Biology); and Job Seeking Skills.
