More “Just for Fun” courses to be offered at PCC

Piedmont Community College has added more courses to its new “Just for Fun” holiday series to be held during fall semester. Offered through PCC’s Continuing Education division, the courses will be held in both Person County and Caswell County. Costs vary depending on the length of the courses and materials provided. Some meet just once while others meet several times. To register for any of the Just for Fun courses, contact Lisa Ashley at (336) 322-2113 or Alicia.ashley@piedmontcc.edu. Caswell County

Making Keepsakes Memory Boxes - $39
Making Keepsakes Memory Boxes will be held on Nov. 4 from 5:15-8 p.m. in Room K110 on the Caswell County Campus. Participants will learn the basic steps necessary to make a personalized keepsakes box. They will need to bring a 2” x 2” picture to use for this project. Participants must register by Oct. 18.

Person County

Cro-Knitted Scarf Course - $39
A Cro-Knitted Scarf course will be held on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in Room C113 on the Person County Campus. Participants will learn the basic steps necessary to complete a cro-knitted scarf, a scarf made with a combination of knitting and crocheting. Participants will need to bring one skein of Red Heart Boutique Sashay yarn (3.5 oz.) or a comparative size of sashay yarn, sequins, or sparkle yarns. The cost of the class is $39. Participants must register by Oct. 23.


Basics of Pottery (6 class meetings) - $149
A Basics of Pottery course will meet beginning Oct. 30 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the Kirby Learning Studios, located at 217 N. Main Street, Roxboro. Participants will meet on Wednesdays for 6 classes meetings (no meeting the week of Thanksgiving), ending Dec. 11. Students will learn the basics of pottery forming methods, how to use a potter's wheel to make basic cylinder and bowl forms, and how to use the slab roller to make a plate or small bowl. Students will also be introduced to trimming and glazing their work. Supplies will be provided Participants must register by Oct. 28.

Shag Dancing (5 classes) - $49
A Shag Dancing course will meet Nov. 7 through Dec. 12 on the Person County Campus in Room S100 from 7 to 8 p.m. Come out and learn a new hobby and make some new friends! This is a great class to take as a couple. Participants must register by Nov. 4.

Bow Tying for the Holidays - $39
Get ready for the holidays by learning how to tie your own holiday bows. The College will offer a Bow Tying for the Holidays course on Nov. 9 from 9-11 a.m. on the Person County Campus in Room C113. Students will need to bring five yards of a ribbon of their choice for a regular bow and/or 20 yards for a tree topper bow. Participants must register by Nov. 6.

Mesh Wreath Making – The Basics - $49
Just in time for the holidays, learn how to make a mesh wreath. The class will meet on Nov. 9 from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Person County Campus in Room C113. Students will need to bring a wire mesh wreath ring and mesh (suggest two rolls). You may also bring and ornaments that you would like to use to decorate the wreath. Participants must register by Nov. 6.

The Basics of Jewelry Making - $49
Participants will learn the basics of wire wrapped jewelry making in the medium of sterling silver. By the end of the class, participants will have created a wire-wrapped pendant and a collar to wear it on. Other jewelry may be produced, time permitting. Additional wrapped pieces will be on displayed to show participants other possible jewelry designs. The class will meet Nov. 12 from 6-9 p.m. in Room C113 on the Person County Campus. Supplies will be provided. Participants must register by Nov. 6.

The objective of this class is for participants to learn the basic steps necessary to make a personalized keepsakes box. Participants will need to bring a 2” x 2” picture to use for this project. Participants must register by Oct. 18.
