Piedmont Community College (PCC) honored the contributions of the late Dr. W. Dallas Herring by unveiling a portrait of the North Carolina Community Colleges pioneer. James Woody, a member of the State Board of Community Colleges, (pictured left) and Dr. Walter Bartlett, PCC President, unveiled the portrait on March 12 during the PCC Foundation’s President’s Club breakfast at the College. Woody said Herring “devoted his life to opening the doors of opportunity and learning for all North Carolinians.” Dr. Bartlett said that Dr. Herring was instrumental in the establishment of the Industrial Education Centers and later the NC Community College System during his tenure on the State Board of Education. Each NC community college received a framed portrait of Dr. Herring, compliments of Duplin Winery and the NC Community College Foundation as part of the NC Community College System’s 50th anniversary celebration this year.
