Piedmont Community College’s Continuing
Education program will offer BioWork, a course that trains individuals for
careers as bioprocess technicians in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and
chemical manufacturing industries. The course will be offered starting Jan. 14
and ending May 12 and will Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
BioWork is a single course that trains
individuals for careers as bioprocess technicians in the biotechnology,
pharmaceutical, and chemical manufacturing industries. This 64- hour,
sixteen-week course is offered as a hybrid course (part classroom instruction
and part online) for more flexibility for students. Enrollment is limited to
the first 16 students.
This course brings together the basics of manufacturing
technology, the fundamentals of science, and the job-seeking essentials needed
to provide marketable skills for manufacturing technicians in the Biotechnology
field. Bioprocess technicians are involved in the making of products; such as
antibiotics, bleach, cosmetics, deodorant, detergents, paint, plastics, Post-It
notes, shampoo, soft drinks, and wine.

Variables; Transforming Matter (Chemistry); Learning the Nuts & Bolts; Controlling
the Process; Sterile Processes (Microbiology); Growing Living Cells (Cell
Biology); and Job Seeking Skills.
The course will be offered on the Person County
Campus. The $176.25 cost covers registration and accident insurance (textbooks
estimated cost $120). Class will not be held Feb. 25 or April

on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 16 students.
