BioWork Process Technician
Community College’s Continuing Education program will offer BioWork, a course that trains individuals for
careers as bioprocess technicians in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and
chemical manufacturing industries.
BioWork will be a hybrid offering with
64-hours classroom instruction and the other half delivered through BlackBoard
online. A thirteen-week course will be offered this fall starting Sept. 17 and
ending Dec. 17. The BioWork Process Technician course will meet each Saturday
from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Class will not be held on Nov. 26.
Class participants will be accepted on a
first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 16 students.
This 128-hour course brings together the basics of
manufacturing technology, the fundamentals of science, and the job-seeking
essentials needed to provide marketable skills for manufacturing technicians in
the Biotech field. Bioprocess technicians are involved in the making of
products such as antibiotics, bleach, cosmetics, deodorant, detergents, paint, plastics,
Post-It notes, shampoo, soft drinks and wine.
Units of instruction include: Your
New Job; Working Safely; Quality; Measuring Process Variables; Transforming
Matter (Chemistry); Learning the Nuts & Bolts; Controlling the Process; Sterile
Processes (Microbiology); Growing Living Cells (Cell Biology); and Job Seeking
