What are Continuing Education Courses?
Continuing Education courses at Piedmont Community College are designed
to provide citizens with opportunities to develop their academic and
occupational potential to the fullest. Courses are also offered to
stimulate the creative interests of students. Continuing Education
courses can vary in length from one day to several months.
Registration
Registration is open to anyone at least 18 years of age or older. Individuals
who are 16-17 years of age may enroll with written permission from their
parent/guardian and the principal of the high school they are attending.
Students should register prior to the first class. Registration may be
completed in person, by mail or by phone. You may print out the Continuing
Education Registration Form (pdf format) available here, complete it and bring
or mail it along with your registration fee. See specific "how to register"
information in each program area on the following pages.
Fees
Fees can be paid at the first class session; however, we encourage the
payment of the registration fee prior to the first class to "hold" your
space. Some courses have a limited enrollment and are filled on a
first-paid basis.
Registration fees vary according to the length and type of course. Fees
are: 0-10 hours, $50; 11-30 hours, $55; 31-100 hours, $60; 101+ hours,
$65.
Piedmont Community College waives tuition for persons 65 years or older
who are NC residents, unless a course is conducted on a self-supporting
basis. Courses in which everyone should pay are noted, "ALL MUST PAY."
The registration fee for fire, rescue and law enforcement personnel is
waived for enrollment in emergency service courses.
Policies
Refunds: Refunds for Continuing Education courses are made as follows:
100% if requested before a course begins or if the course is cancelled;
75% if requested after a course begins but before 10% of the total
course meetings.
Course Repeats: State regulations require that students who take the
same job-related course more than twice in a five-year period must pay
additional charges for the course unless they are required to repeat the
course for certification or license renewal.
CEU Credit: Policy guidelines from the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools determine that any continuing education course may
be taken for CEUs if the course is 10 hours or more in length and
appropriate to your field. In order to receive CEUs, successful
completion of the course is required. One CEU is awarded for every 10
hours of class.
