Student Clubs, Organizations, and Committees

C.A.R.E. (Caring About Reaching Everyone)

This organization's purpose is to promote the field of human services and to practice the principles acquired through coursework. Students in this organization devote their time, skill and knowledge to community service projects as they strive to improve the quality of life for people in need. Members also enjoy fellowship and networking opportunities in their monthly meetings and participate in leadership training conferences and human service education workshops. Membership is open to all who are interested in the human service profession.

Piedmont Community College Film Club

The Film Club was developed by PCC Film and Video Production Technology (FVPT) students to :

  1. Promote academic excellence and student fellowship while sharing knowledge and resources of the film industry.
  2. Produce quality student film and video projects.
  3. Sponsor fund raising projects to aid in the costs of producing student-generated projects.
  4. Communicate with other students and professional groups.
  5. Affiliate with state and national organizations of professionals in the filmmaking industry.
  6. Promote awareness and recognition of the PCC FVPT program.
  7. Promote professional services to PCC and surrounding community.
The Film Club is open to all PCC students with an interest in filmmaking enrolled in Piedmont Community College. Club offices are held by full-time Film and Video Production Technology students.

Student Nursing Association (SNA)

The purposes of the Student Nursing Association are to promote health care in the community, supplement the cost of the nursing program at Piedmont Community College for students and promote awareness and recognition of the Associate Degree Nursing program at Piedmont Community College.

The Student Nursing Association is open to any nursing student enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program. The SNA sponsors events such as the Bloodmobile, blood pressure checks and other service projects as well as fund raising projects to aid in the cost of pinning and capping ceremonies.

Cosmetology Club

The Cosmetology Club is open to all students enrolled in the Cosmetology program at Piedmont Community College. Honorary membership is granted to each Club member in good standing upon his or her graduation and extends for life. The purposes of the Cosmetology Club are to promote academic excellence and student fellowship among students enrolled in the Cosmetology program and to promote professional
services to Piedmont Community College and the surrounding community.

Criminal Justice Club

The Criminal Justice Club provides criminal justice students opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities related to their program of study. Students are able to meet other criminal justice students, and discuss current issues in criminal justice. Additional opportunities provide students with speakers in the Criminal Justice Field, trips to Criminal Justice facilities, and trips to local and regional Criminal Justice conferences. Students also recognize and implement special activities to benefit programs and needy persons in the local community through fund drives and special events.

Piedmont Gunsmithing Association

The Piedmont Gunsmithing Association is open to all students enrolled in the Gunsmithing program at Piedmont Community College. Honorary membership is granted to each association member in good standing upon his or her graduation and extends for life. Honorary membership, other than alumni, must be sponsored by a member in good standing and approved by two-thirds majority vote. The purposes of the Piedmont Gunsmithing Association are :

To promote academic excellence and quality workmanship while improving and expanding knowledge of gunsmithing field.
To affiliate with national organizations of professionals in the fire arms industry.
To communicate with other students and professional groups.
To increase occupational opportunities for Piedmont Gunsmithing Association members involved in gunsmithing and related areas.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association (SGA) promotes the general welfare of the College in a democratic fashion and facilitates communication among the student body, the faculty and the administration. Besides coordinating expenditures of the student activity budget, the Student Government Association provides a means through which students can promote interest in student activities. Some activities that the SGA sponsors include pig pickings, lectures, activities honoring historical persons, events such as Dr, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Black History month and a newsletter.

The SGA Executive Council is assisted by the Student Senate. The Senate consists of representatives who are appointed by the instructor for each curriculum program. The Senate advises the SGA Executive Council by providing input and assistance in implementing SGA activities.

Officers are elected in Spring semester of each year. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, Parliamentarian and Caswell Member-At-Large make up the SGA Executive Council, which holds regularly scheduled meetings on campus. All students are invited to these meetings to discuss new ideas for activities.

The Student Government Association Constitution, Bylaws and Policies are available by request in the Office of Student Development.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL)

Phi Beta Lambda is a national organization for all students enrolled in business or office programs in post-secondary schools and colleges. The major purposes of the organization are to develop competent, aggressive business leadership, to strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work and to create more interest in and understanding of American business enterprise. The Theta Alpha Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Lambda at Piedmont Community College was organized in the fall of 1977 and it is open to all business students. Members participate in a variety of activities on the local level as well as conferences and meetings on the state, regional and national levels.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor and service society. The major purposes of Phi Theta Kappa are to encourage scholastic effort and reward academic merit, to stand for and to promote worthy character and high ideals and to foster, disseminate and improve education through service projects.

Phi Theta Kappa is open to associate degree students who have completed at least 12 semester hours in an associate degree program with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5. Members participate in a variety of school and community projects. They also attend state and national conventions. As PTK members students are eligible to apply for special PTK scholarships at participating four-year institutions.

Piedmont Community College Ambassadors

The Piedmont Community College Ambassadors is an honorary group of students who have been nominated by faculty and staff to represent the College at special events on campus and in the community. The PCC Ambassadors receive financial support from the Piedmont Community College Foundation. Duties of an ambassador include giving campus tours, hosting campus activities, speaking to community groups, assisting with Foundation activities, assisting with student activities and welcoming groups to the campus.
