Student Government Association (SGA)
The Student Government Association (SGA) promotes the general welfare of the College in a
democratic fashion and facilitates communication among the student body, the faculty and
the administration. Besides coordinating expenditures of the student activity budget, the
Student Government Association provides a means through which students can promote
interest in student activities. Some activities that the SGA sponsors include pig
pickings, lectures, activities honoring historical persons, events such as Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Black History month and a newspaper.
The SGA Executive Council is assisted by the Student Senate. The Senate consists of
representatives who are appointed by the instructor for each curriculum program. The
Senate advises the SGA Executive Council by providing input and assistance in
implementing SGA activities.
Officers are elected in Spring semester of each year. The President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer make up the SGA Executive Council, which holds regularly
scheduled meetings on campus. All students are invited to these meetings to discuss new
ideas for activities.
The Student Government Association Constitution, Bylaws and Policies are printed in the
Student Handbook, which is published by the SGA. Handbooks and information pertinent to
the SGA and its Constitution are available in the Office of Student Development.
