PCC student summer orientation scheduled; Registration still available for summer classes that transfer

Piedmont Community College (PCC) will host a Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) event on May 1 and 2 for students who are registered or interested in registering for summer classes at the College.

The program is mandatory for students currently registered for PCC summer classes and will cover financial aid information, program highlights, and a general orientation.

The May 1 event will be held on PCC’s Caswell County Campus in Building K from 4 – 6:30 p.m. Students can attend the SOAR program on PCC’s Person County Campus in Building D on May 2, 4 – 6:30 p.m.

Piedmont Community College has summer classes available in Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Computers, Economics, Gunsmithing, English, Humanities, Math, Music, Healthcare, Psychology, Sociology, and Welding. Summer courses that transfer to 4-year colleges and universities in North Carolina* include:
• BIO-111 – General Biology I – internet
• ECO-251 – Principles of Microeconomics – internet
• ECO-252 – Principles of Macroeconomics – internet
• ENG-111 – Writing and Inquiry – M/W, 8-10:50 a.m.
• ENG-112 – Writing and Research in the Discipline – internet
• MAT 143 – Quantitative Literacy – T/TH, 2:30 – 4:20 p.m.
• MAT 152 – Statistical Methods I – internet
• MUS 110 – Music Appreciation – T/TH, 9 – 11:50 a.m.
• SOC-220 – Social Problems – internet

PCC’s summer classes make it easier for students enrolled in or enrolling in a 4-year school to gain 3-6 credits over the summer, while also saving the family hundreds of dollars. *Students are encouraged to work with their college/university counselor to guarantee the PCC courses will transfer for full credit.

Current high school seniors who graduate after June 5 are eligible to take summer classes at PCC through the Career and College Promise (CCP) program at no cost. Piedmont Community College offers more than 30 programs for students to choose from, including transfer, health occupations, technical, business, public safety, human services, and emerging technologies.

In addition to having convenient locations, PCC also offers a more affordable way to further your education. A three (3) credit summer class costs under $270 at Piedmont Community College (compared to over $860 at a nearby 4-year university). Taking two summer classes at PCC will save a student over $1,200!
