Students to pay less for GED® Testing, but more for additional transcripts

Students who need to take official GED® Tests to complete their high school equivalency requirements will pay less now.  At its April 22 meeting, the Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees approved a decrease in the testing fee from $120 to $80, effective May 1. The North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) mandated the change in April.

The higher $120 fee went into effect on Jan. 1, 2014 following the introduction of a revised high school equivalency test administered by a new vendor, PearsonVue. Previously the testing fee had been $35.

In a related matter, students will also see changes in the costs for GED® transcripts and diplomas. In the past, the NCCCS issued official transcripts, both the original and successive transcripts, for free. Effective May 2, the NCCCS no longer issues the transcripts. Instead, transcripts and diplomas from 2002 forward will be issued by the GED® Testing Service (GEDTS). Students’ first copy of their GED® diploma and transcript will be free, but additional copies will cost $15 each.
