William Upchurch, Executive Director of the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, made a ceremonial check presentation to Piedmont Community College officials on April 3 at the Kirby Cultural Arts Center. The presentation marked the College’s receipt of a $25,000 Project Skill-Up grant to assist Person and Caswell County residents who have been negatively affected by the decline in the tobacco industry. The College is using the grant to fund its new Workforce Certification Academy, which offers the Certified Production Technology Technician (CPT) program leading to national certification in several manufacturing areas. PCC is the only community college in North Carolina to offer the entire CPT program. CPT provides training for national certification in the areas of safety awareness, manufacturing processes, quality practices, and maintenance awareness.
