Piedmont Community College’s new website has been named “Site of the Year” in a contest sponsored by software company DotNetNuke. The website, which debuted in August, was selected “Site of the Month” and then competed with other monthly winners in the “Site of the Year” contest, which was conducted by online voting.

“PCC had some stiff international competition,” said Bonnie Davis, PCC Director, Public Information. “Since 2006, over 600,000 websites were built using the DotNetNuke content management system (CMS), so we know our competition included some outstanding business, corporate, education and personal sites. People who viewed PCC’s website recognized the innovative education website that PCC website technician Kevin Tyburski created for the College and knew that it was worthy of their contest vote.”

“I think what makes PCC's site so special is its ability to capture what the audience wants in the style they want to see it in,” Tyburski said of the new PCC site’s cafeteria-style design. “As a user, you're not bombarded with pages you have no interest in due to the research we did in planning the site. There's a lot more in store for PCC's website in the future as well, and this is a testament to DotNetNuke’s system which allows us to customize website features as needed.”   PCC’s research included comparing various CMS features, ease of use and cost before selecting DotNetNuke’s open source (publicly available at low cost) system.

“Deep down, DNN is community-oriented,” said Tyburski. “It's one of the most frequently-used open source CMSs in the world, but the company still attends to our needs and ideas. Its cost effectiveness, versatility and ability to grow as PCC’s online needs grow were all selling points.”

The award was presented during DotNetNuke’s sold-out international conference in Orlando, Fla. last weekend. PCC accepted the award via a video featuring PCC President Dr. Walter Bartlett backed up by College personnel who contributed to the website project. The video may be seen on DotNetNuke’s conference website (http://dotnetnukeworld.dotnetnuke.com/ bottom left area of the webpage) or on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/piedmontcc.   “Piedmont Community College is honored to receive this award for our website,” said Dr. Walter Bartlett, PCC President. “We already knew we had a real winner in our new site, but it is rewarding to realize that others recognize how special our customized website is. It is certainly a great asset for the College and a wonderful resource for our students as well as the public.”

DotNetNuke, whose headquarters are in San Mateo, Calif.,  offers a widely-adopted web content management platform for building websites and web applications on Microsoft.NET.
