Adult Basic Skills
The Adult Basic Skills (ABS) program provides FREE academic instruction for adults, ages 18 and older, to be able to:

  • Earn a high school equivalency through GED® testing
  • Improve or learn basic reading, writing and math skills
  • Learn English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Gain skills needed for college or job entry
  • Make a difference in your child's education

OTHER PROGRAM OFFERINGS

Adult Basic Education (ABE) Levels 1 and 2 (Click here for Class Schedule):
  • FREE instruction is provided in basic reading, writing and math (Pre-reading skills through pre-GED® skills) to prepare you for high school level work. 
  • For more information about ABE classes, please call the local ABS office (see above).
  • Minors, age 16-17, may enroll if entrance criteria is met. 


Family Literacy - Adults and Children in Education (ACE)

  • FREE instruction is provided to parents or guardians who have a child five (5) years old and younger (Age of child maybe adjusted based on enrollment).  
  • Skills are taught to help parents:
    - complete high school equivalency
            - be able to foster their child;s educational success
            - become college or career ready

Basic Skills Plus (BS+)

  • Basic Skills Plus (BS+) allows students enrolled in high school equivalency instruction to also enroll into college courses, employability skills training and job specific occupational training at the same time.  
  • Students are eligible who meet reading and math level requirements.  
  • Graduate with high school equivalency, college credit, and occupational certification!

  • If you have completed high school or earned a high school equivalency diploma and need a review of basic skills to qualify for college entrance, Pre-College instruction is for you.
  • FREE Service!

Other Services
  • GED® testing. The GED® test is a high school equivalency test for adults who did not complete high school. Piedmont Community College's campuses are official GED® test centers. 
  • ABS Online Instruction.  Students who cannot meet a class schedule and are able to work independently may study online.  Instruction is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 
Registration Information

  • Provide a current, government issued photo ID or drivers license
  • Social security number or tax identification number
  • Schedule an Intake & Placement Test session with the ABS Office
