Career Step - Medical Coding and Billing (MCB) and Medical Transcription and Editing (MT)

Through our partnership with Career Step, Piedmont Community College is now offering programs leading to a new career, entirely online. You can learn to be a Medical Transcriptionist or a Medical Coder and Biller, completely from the comfort of your home. Ed2go

Through Ed2go, Piedmont Community College offers a wide range of highly interactive courses that you can take entirely over the Internet. You will find hundreds of engaging online courses, covering every topic from Anatomy to Web Design. Most courses cost just $65. Please visit our Ed2Go Online Courses page for more information and a complete listing of our courses.

To register and pay:

Online:
  1. Choose a course from our catalog of hundreds of courses.
  2. Click on the "Enroll Now" button.
  3. Type in the requested information and pay for your course.
  4. Click to go to "Orientation" and follow the directions there.
  5. You will receive an email with the link to our secure registration form . When you submit this form, your registration will be complete.

Adult Basic Skills (ABS) Online Studies

ABS Online program offers courses to prepare for GED® testing. Students who cannot attend a GED® class, who have access to the Internet and who can work independently may enroll in online ABE/GED® classes.  A variety of software is used including KeyTrain. KeyTrain helps prepare students for GED® testing and WorkKeys® Assessments. WorkKeys test levels allowing students to earn a North Carolina Readiness Certificate.  There is no cost for this program of study.

To participate, students need:
  • basic computer skills
  • computer with Internet access or transportation to campus to attend online labs using a PCC library computer
  • to be able to complete a minimum of 6 hours online per week
  • to be able meet with an assigned instructor for face-to-face orientation, placement and progress testing, and instructional support/training

To register, students will need:
  • Social security number or tax identification number
  • Current, government issued picture ID or drivers license

eREAL

If you are looking to start or expand a business, but can’t commit to weekly classroom sessions, then e-REAL is for you. e-REAL is the online version of the Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning course.

So just what is REAL you ask? Great question! REAL is a unique hands-on approach to assist you, the entrepreneur through the planning, owning and operating of your own businesses. You don’t need prior business experience since the course is designed with the beginner in mind. However, if you’ve already gotten started, REAL will provide you with the tools necessary to improve and expand your business.

During the 13 weeks of the course you will cover topics such as self-assessment, market research, competitive analysis, financial feasibility, business plan essentials, legal structures, targeting the customer, taxes and licenses, and computerized financial analysis.
