The Roxboro Kiwanis Club has given its support to the Kirby Rebirth: Upstairs, Uptownby pledging $10,000 towards the project. The project, led by Piedmont Community College (PCC), calls for renovations to the upstairs of the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex, making it a useful space for the arts and other functions.

“The Roxboro Kiwanis Club voted unanimously to support the Kirby Rebirth project because we feel that it is a tremendous benefit to a wide spectrum of Person County residents,” said Greg Duhon, Roxboro Kiwanis Club past president. “It greatly enhances the potential for the children and youth of the County to be exposed to artistic expression thereby expanding their horizons and enhancing their learning experience. We also feel that the Kirby has excellent potential to serve as the anchor for the downtown revitalization effort and demonstrate to all the validity of preserving treasures rather than replacing them. The Kiwanis are proud to be counted as part of such a worthwhile effort.”

PCC is conducting a campaign to raise $213,000 for Phase I of the Kirby Rebirth project. Phase I would make the space accessible through the installation of an elevator, stairway improvements, and electrical upgrades.

PCC is working in partnership with Person County Government to manage the Kirby Cultural Arts Center, which includes the Kirby Theater, the Kirby Gallery art museum and store, and the Kirby Learning Studios, where PCC offers classes in its Associate in Fine Arts program.

The Roxboro Kiwanis Club joins Roxboro Savings Bank, The Person County Tourism Development Authority, and Union Bank, whose pledges of support have already been publicly announced.
