Union Bank & Trust Co. has pledged its support of the Kirby Rebirth: Upstairs-Uptown project through a donation of $10,000. Spearheaded by Piedmont Community College, the Kirby Rebirth project will provide initial renovations to the upstairs of the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex.

“Union Bank & Trust is delighted to contribute to the Kirby Rebirth: Upstairs – Uptown project,” said Don Lancaster, Chief Banking Officer/Executive Vice President, for Union Bank & Trust Co. “We recognize the importance of the arts in our community, and renovating this landmark building will result in fresh space for art classes, art appreciation, and more. We pride ourselves in donating to the most worthwhile projects, and the Kirby Rebirth is no exception. We are proud to participate in the revitalization of this historic site.”

PCC is currently conducting a campaign to raise $236,500 to install an elevator and new stairs to the second level and to update restroom facilities to make the second level handicapped accessible. College leaders envision using the space for art classes and activities, galleries, and studio spaces as well as providing a space for meetings and business retreats.

“The generous support of our businesses and industries, such as Union Bank & Trust Co., will help make this vision a reality,” said Dr. Walter Bartlett, PCC President. “We are most appreciative of their interest and commitment to the Kirby Rebirth project as well for their monetary pledge.”
